SIDEARM: Clean your release NOW
Переглядів 7 тис.Місяць тому
When throwing the sidearm, there is no late release or grip lock. There is only early release, which feels like a grip lock, resulting in a wobbly flight that goes nowhere. Fix that by guiding the disc for as long as possible, so that your body and the arm stays on the swing plane until the release. You can support me on patreon.com/dgspindoctor. 5:15 think GG is doing more than ”falling on his front foot”. The front knee clearly extends after contact.
Of course, it's so self-evident that didn't think I even had to mention it. I mean, if you don't want to fall on your nose, you have to tense the leg. It's like walking, right? Do you think about extending the knee while walking? Having said that, extending is NOT a forced move but a side-effect of not wanting to fall on your knees.
@@dgspindoctor my problem is actually not extending and I’m trying to fix that. I only fall on the front foot. Having trouble fixing that.
It's quite enough to just stop and resist the fall over it, you can't but extend a little.
@@dgspindoctor thanks! Although it seems the longest throwers do extend fully or almost fully after landing their front foot. Seems that’s the very moment they launch the disc
@@akselim7403 I try to repeat again: the "extension" is a by product of resisting the fall, tensing the leg. If you only think about extending the knee, you're in for big trouble and pain.

Just started playing 3 months ago. This drill helped me so much. Thanks!
It's quite effective, yeah. Thanks!
been my no 1 problem for a long time, makes me throw down but also its weird that it doesnt feel wrong but you get bad results so its definitely wrong. thanks/good vid
You fixed my Forehand by helping me realize i was terminating the throw before maximum extension. I have to Tuck my Thumb Under my Pointer on top of the flight plate, it felt weird, then I hit 325' The back loaded grip got me back to 250' I won't be using this technique....
❤
The video is about form.. But someone clarify.. Can a player Tee Off without touching the Pad during the throw? Cuz thats what i just saw.. 😅
American courses and tournaments let that happen by special rules sometimes, so yeah, that's what happened here.
💞💞
Weight shift huge
Maybe a little exaggerated here, true.
1. Jalka MAAHAN. 2. Käsi KOHTEESEEN. Siitä sitten pikkuhiljaa hienosäätämään. Tai sitten tulet mun yksäritunnille Helsinkiin.
@@dgspindoctor ilman kiekkoa onnistuu mielestäni ihan hyvin.
I struggle to get my backhand form right…your explanation/lesson has helped a lot.
Turn your head and the rest of the body follows the powers is from the hips imagine a baseball pitcher motion
Basically, kinda, but not at all like a baseball pitcher ☺️.
It's so easy doing the movement when sitting infront of the PC, but whenever I test it on the field I'm all over the place..
i need to try this as im having similar issues with my form
but im afraid i will need actual one on one coaching to get over this obstacle :(
I love your videos! You are a tremendous teacher. I have been playing disc golf for about 3-4 years. In that time, I can’t remember a time where I heard actual “snap” while throwing. I went out to the field today and heard real snap on 75% of my stand still throws! The disc was flying out of my hand and flying smooth through the air. It was so cool! Thank thank thank you for this incredible video and lesson. I cannot wait to get back out and practice
Great to hear! Thank you so much!
I'll give this a go tomorrow. Just started playing disc golf this summer, the throwing is a lot harder than what I thought it would be.
Ha, yeah, it looks SO EASY. But is not. Enjoy the journey!
👍
It makes sense when you say to extend the arm and show us during the tip portion but then when you throw the disc it just looks like a normal side arm that everyone throws and I don’t see the “reach as far” tip in action. 🤔
You mean everyone who knows how to throw? Exactly. I try to teach you that, not the wobbly fart you see looking at bad throwers.
@@dgspindoctor I'm just saying during the beginning of the video the arm is fully extended when you are giving that tip to reach as far as you can. Then when you actually throw the disc, it doesn't look like you are reaching as far as you can at all. It looks like a normal release.
Yeah, when you try to do that, it looks like that. When you don't, it looks bad and wobbly. Why don't you give it a try instead arguing about it here? Many people did and found it super helpful.
I've been playing disc golf for 10 years now and from the first days, my forehand shots have always left a "wow.." effect on people. I always thought my forehand is perfect and can't be improved. I tried your one tip from this video just for laughs: reach as far as possible. Jesus christ. I got some much more spin and cleaner release that my overstable discs started to hyzerflip. Amazing job with this video. t. Suami
Thank you! Enjoy your brave new forehand!
Do you do 1 on 1 lessons online?
Sadly, I can't devote my time to those at this point. I hope it's possible in the future.
What a beautiful backdrop. Well done!
Always awesome you're a fantastic teacher a wonderful coach look forward to everything you have to say. I just started playing at age 60 and I'm loving it. On behalf of the U.S.A lower Michigan Stay bright stay safe !!!
4:25 "Longest greatest anhyzer" ... That was not even an anhyzer throw; it was released on a notable hyzer and turned over into an annie. It was a sweet turnover shot, dgmr, but not really great at alleviating concerns about your technique resulting in throwing on a hyzer.
Wow, never heard this argument before! (By the way, I'm being sarcastic.)
What an amazingly pointless response.
@@abc_def-55 Read the 20 other comments saying exactly what you did, and come tell me about being pointless.
@@dgspindoctor I did have a look through some of the comments but couldn't spot it discussed, my bad for missing them I guess. If the subject keeps popping up, maybe instead of worthless responses you should pin one of the comments where it was discussed so it's easy to find , or put a explanation in the description. If you felt the subject has been done to death and not worth addressing, which you clearly did, you could have just ignored the comment and saved the time of replying.
Yeah, sorry. It's just that I get a bit frustrared hearing the exact same thing pointed at me, and sometimes, as a content creator, it feels a bit unnecessary to keep getting the same comments. Especially when all I try to do is help people get better at disc golf, for free, and this is the thanks I get for that.
I don't really understand this, should i lean to the direction of where i throw before and during the coil?
It's like a very strong nose over toes, done from the front side, yes. Just for eliminating the lean on the back leg.
Wow! What a difference. I need to go out to a field and do this exact same thing. Thanks for the help. Cant wait to get out.
Yeah, but remember, this is a drill only. The actual "pull" is a bit different.
@@dgspindoctor This is probably the right drill for me, how is the pull actually supposed to feel like
Was stuck here forever. Recently really getting it, SUPER helpful to see you work him through the mechanic of bending that arm in (out and in). James Conrad is a good one to watch, he peaks reach back very early, and you can very clearly see his timing of when he bends in relative to his rotation.
Yeah, but remember, this is a drill only. The actual "pull" is a bit different.
This is the way.
Somewhat, yeah!

Fun to see the training in action. A good coach is invaluable.

This is how you find the snap. I hope other viewers will realize how important this video is!
Just an FYI, the audible snap is not what you are looking for. Back in the day, snap was a hot topic, but it was misrepresented by many as that audible snapping sound. That sound is not necessarily bad, but it’s arguably not great either. The only sound you’re looking to hear is the whoosh of the disc, and if you don’t hear that then something is wrong, but hearing it doesn’t mean everything is right either. More on the history of what is known as snap. The real snap was referring to point of tendon bounce at the hit. It’s what happens when you’re doing everything correctly, and isn’t a sound or really anything that’s aimed for. It just happens. There’s a couple old videos describing snap, but in none of those do they describe the sound or highlight anything to do with the snapping sound. Many years have passed since then, and far too many videos referencing the snapping noise. Until recently, a few videos and other discussion has been released describing what I’m trying to say here. Some discussion points out the audible snapping sound as being very bad, and accounting for distance loss versus gain. I’m not on either side of the audible snap sound. I’ve not seen enough evidence to argue if it’s good or bad. I will leave you with this though. Having been around and very close to many pros throwing short and long shots, some have an audible snap on release while others don’t. Those that do have an audible sound are typically long 500+ foot drives with some late release, which is common for those players. Paul McBeth is a good example here. Regardless of there being some snap sound or not, every pro’s shot had a very audible whoosh that could be heard over 100 feet away regardless of it being a short or long shot.
This explains my issue so well!! And when you described the bending over part, I said "that's what I look like!". Thank you for the help.
THIS IS THE VIDEO I NEEDED! Literally having the same issue!
Jist got into this sport. So ofcourse i have been watching a lot of videos. And there is so much contradictions between different youtubers its crazy. Thing im gonna stick to this one tho
Get the disc far out from your body and you're got to go, or throw!
Can i send my form to you in instagram
No, sorry. I get them too many and I need to pay the bills, too, with this job.
This is excellent. Thanks! Will try this in the field!
Have fun!
Watching a player with a similar build work through this issue is adding a lot of clarity to your last video. Keep up the awesome content.
Glad to help

I hope it helps!
Good stuff Jaani!
Thank you!
Nice video! He looks like he will be bombing soon. For the stance, do you want to kind of be in a football type stance? Or similar athetlic stance? I realize I've been pulling with only my arm and am trying to involve my body now
Go low, soft knees, butt out, nose over toes. The arm is the only thing you need after brace.
I have chronic elbow dip and this video has made things super clear now. Thankyou Spin Doctor!
Happy to help!
What do you mean by pushing down? Is that pushing on the foot trying to straighten the leg or collaps over the foot?
Collapse your body over the leg. If you push up, you do it too early. Go down.
I love the cannon analogy
ok just finished the video, the guy did a 180 and his form transformed extremely quick. he will have to audit himself a lot in the beginning to make sure hes not falling back on old bad habbits, but you sure did point him in the right direction and showed him what hes capable of doing! great job!
Thanks! He will get this ingrained soon!
I love this video because you see how to slow things down and work in minor adjustments with excellent results.
Glad it helped!
i have noticed when i use my shoulders to throw, all my ar,m/shoulder pain went away. The more i remove the shoulders the pain i can get in the shoulder, its nothing major, just sore after a round.. I do notice i get a lot more power when i tell myself, keep the head static and dont use the shoudlers. I have a friend whos a massive swooper, and i think this video is the one i can use as a referecen to fix his old bad habbits.
The brace and the arm + follow through. That is what makes a fast arm.
